The Practical Seminar "AI & Data Science" lets students work on a real-world problem in human-centered systems and develop a running software prototype, closely linked to our research topics. Students receive an individual assignment, coordinate with a supervising researcher, and deliver the prototype together with a short written documentation over a maximum time of six months. Currently offered topics are listed on the Practical Seminars website (https://h-lab.win.kit.edu/thesis.php); proposals fitting to our research topics are also welcome.

Learning objectives

After completing the Practical Seminar, students are able to:

• scope a real-world problem and create a feasible seminar proposal;
• select and apply suitable methods and tools to build and evaluate a running software prototype;
• work independently and self-organized in coordination with a supervisor;
• document the approach, results, and artifact in a concise seminar paper.
