Research Interests

Welcome!

My research focuses on the human‑centered design of hybrid work environments.

In my first research stream, I focus on the design and impact of platform‑mediated collaboration for teams, especially in remote meetings. I want to improve the design of video-based meeting systems to help users avoid displeasuring states, such as high cognitive load or fatigue. Furthermore, I want to understand how AI-based assistance impacts individual work in teams and teamwork per se. I use biosignals to sense the effects of current designs, and use them as input to recognize and classify the user's current state and adapt the system accordingly. My main topics of interest are:

  • Video-based meeting systems and their impact on the user
  • System adaptations based on user's (bio)signals
  • Experimental Research

In my second research stream, I focus on the design and impact of generative AI systems at the workplace. Again, the focus is set on understanding how genAI influences cognitive states during use, how different levels of AI agent capabilities impact such states and how reflective use can be fostered. My main topics of interest are:

  • AI agent & GenAI design and its impact on the user's cognition
  • Interventions & strategies to foster effective and reflective use of GenAI
  • Experimental Research

Teaching

If you are interested in a Bachelor or Master Thesis in a related topic to my research interests, send a mail to julia.seitz∂kit.edu with your CV and your current transcript of records.

I am also interested to hear your own topic ideas in the area of Video-based meeting systems, recognizing user states via biosignals (Eye, Heart Data) or adapting systems based on biosignals.
